Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Philly’s casino with the ‘Light Up America & Canada’ tour!
Legendary comedy duo Cheech and Chong will celebrate Cinco de Mayo at SugarHouse Casino by performing their successful comedy show on Saturday, May 5, at 9 p.m. Richard “Cheech” Marin and his Mexican heritage join Tommy Chong on The Event Center Stage for their “Light Up America & Canada” tour.
Over the course of 13 years, Cheech and Chong released nine albums together; their album “Los Cochinos” won a Grammy® for Best Comedy Recording in 1973. In addition, the pair starred in eight films, including the highest-grossing comedy film of 1978, “Up In Smoke.” During their 25-year hiatus, the duo went on to work on their own projects. Cheech wrote the hit movie “Born in East LA.” In 2008, Chong released his book about the infamous duo — “Cheech and Chong: The Unauthorized Autobiography.”
Marin has made various appearances throughout the industry, from such TV shows as the CBS drama “Nash Bridges” and NBC’s “Lost” to more than 20 films, including his scene-stealing role in “Tin Cup.” He is considered a cultural icon and a multigenerational star from his timeless films. Cheech penned his own long-awaited autobiography in 2017 titled “Cheech Is Not My Real Name…But Don’t Call Me Chong!” He is the largest collector of Chicano art in North America and was recently granted his own museum — The Cheech Marin Center for Art, Culture and Industry — scheduled to open in 2020.
Chong entered the industry as a musician and soon began acting, appearing in several films such as “Far Out Man!” and “National Lampoon’s Senior Trip.” No stranger to the camera, he also guest starred in various TV shows, including Fox’s “That 70’s Show,” “The George Lopez Show” and “Dancing With the Stars.” In 2006, Chong released the award-winning documentary “A/k/a Tommy Chong” worldwide.
